Narrative description of Project:
In Ngoma, Mugesera Sector targeting 63 farmers growing pineapple regrouped in KOABANAMU Cooperative. The project was designed to improve the livelihoods of small holder farmers through improved agriculture modern techniques, cooperative management and market linkages and technical capacities of pineapple farmers.
The followings are key achievements during implementation of the project:
- Training of Trainers of 18 Growers farmers on agriculture modern techniques focusing mainly on organic farming (The training was conducted and focused on Cooperative Governance and Management, Pineapple farming Business management including basic accountancy, business plans as well strategic planning).
- Peers to Peers Education of 45 Pineapple growers through coaching and mentorship. (The farmers were trained Shifting from mineral synthetic fertilizers and agrochemicals to organic farming).
- KOABANAMU Linked to Tuzamurane Cooperative located in Kirehe District in order to learn based on best practices and add values for market access and linkage
- 31 Members of Cooperatives supported with Goats in order to improve their livelihoods conditions
- 32 members of cooperatives supported with pigs
- KOABANAMU Supported with 72,600 Pineapple improved suckers
- Members of Cooperatives trained in Cooperative governance, management, business planning and market access.
- 18 Pineapple growers from KOABANAMU Cooperative were linked to TUZAMURANE which operates in Gahara sector of Kirehe district through a study tour. The main objective of this linkage was to exchange the experience of market bargaining and selling process coupled with visiting the pineapple farms and sees how TUZAMURE cooperative members grow pineapple organically.
